The Sun and the Moon

I recall hearing an ancient tale when I was younger about the Sun and the moon. I don’t recall much, just that it was a tale of love. In more recent times I’ve come across many a Tumblr-age post asking, “Tell me the story about how the Sun loved the Moon so much he died every night just to let her breathe.” Though I don’t know the story, that line alone holds much power.
I think sacrifice is of the most beautiful ways to demonstrate love. I think it is necessary for love to last. Sacrifice does not need to be moving across the world for someone, it can be giving your partner the last sip of your favorite wine. For the Sun, the sacrifice was immense, but evidently worthwhile. I think everyone dreams of being worth some sort of immense sacrifice. Maybe I’m just a fool in love, but I’ve recently considered the possibility that it may just be equally as dream-worthy to have somebody worth sacrificing for.
When I hear the tale of the Sun and the Moon, I don’t think of how lucky the Moon is to have someone love her so much. When I hear the tale of the Sun and the Moon, I’m amazed by the strength of love and certainty the Sun felt for the Moon. Blessed is the Sun, maybe even more than the Moon.
